Historic hotels definitely don’t have to be stodgy. Destination Hotels and Resorts property, The Carolina Inn, located on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill since 1924, are showing guests that they have a fun side by adding a pop of color in the lobby with gorgeous Lilly Pulitzer fabrics.
The Inn recently completed its sixth renovation in 98 years, and Skimbaco had the pleasure of attending the relaunch party last week in Chapel Hill.
General Manager Jack Schmidt believes this renovation gives the hotel a more residential feel as if you are staying in someone’s Southern home. I agree. The latest room renovations consist of calming, soothing colors such as mint and peach. The artwork in the rooms, and in the common areas, are a tribute to the Inn’s historic past by showcasing important alumni from North Carolina’s first public university.
According to editors of Southern Bride and Groom Magazine, The Carolina Inn leads the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area as a top venue for weddings and receptions. It hosts more than 100 wedding-related events in a year. I can certainly see why. It’s Southern traditional to the core.
From my own experience, it also has one of the best traditional afternoon tea services in North Carolina, too.
I think a tea party for my 45th birthday would be fun. Don’t you?
Destination Hotels & Resorts is the fourth largest independent hospitality management company in the United States with more than 30 luxury and upscale hotels, resorts and conference centers. The Carolina Inn is Destination’s only property in North Carolina.
