Skimbaco Lifestyle
Skimbaco Lifestyle was founded by Katja Presnal in 2007 in Durango, Colorado. The name Skimbaco comes from a Finnish slang word for ski/skiing “skimba” and “CO” is for Colorado.
The Presnal family lived nomadically for 20 years moving an average every two years. The question Katja got the most often was “What is your favorite place?” and her answer always was “All of them – because you need to live life to the fullest in the moment and place you are.”
Everyone creates their own Skimbaco – whether it’s skiing in Colorado, shopping in New York, or island hopping in the Finnish archipelago.
Skimbaco lifestyle is based on Nordic principles:
- Sisu
Sisu represents Finnish resilience and determination, the ability to push through tough challenges with inner strength and perseverance.
- Lagom
Lagom means “just enough” — a Swedish philosophy of balance and moderation, focusing on a well-rounded, harmonious life.
- Hygge
Hygge is about creating cozy, comforting moments, enjoying simple pleasures, and fostering warmth and togetherness.
Skimbaco Manifesto
We enjoy life to the fullest, knowing it often takes careful planning to create a life you love every moment.
We live for luxury but understand that sometimes you need to sell your purse on eBay to make the next big thing happen.
We know that living better starts with focusing on wellness and health, but it’s not as simple as reading motivational posters.
We love to explore the world, but sometimes nothing beats being home.
We believe in taking risks, but sometimes that means wearing a bold shirt to work, not ziplining over a rainforest.
We believe in silver linings and happy endings, and we’re ready to do more than just make to-do lists in pretty notebooks to take charge of our happiness.
