Travel: Living The Rich Life at Argonaut Hotel in San Francisco

Last Minute San Francisco Getaway

Last weekend, my husband and I took a quick getaway to San Francisco to spend some time alone after a busy Christmas holiday. San Francisco is our favorite west coast city, and a short one-hour drive from our home in the Sonoma Wine Country. Spur of the moment getaways aren’t always easy when you have pets. It’s often difficult to find someone to take care of them on short notice. Luckily, we knew of a wonderful hotel in San Francisco that would happily accommodate us and our pets. Besides, we prefer to bring our dogs along whenever possible.

Argonaut Hotel in San Francisco

Argonaut Hotel, a Kimpton Property, is ideally located within walking distance of Fisherman’s Wharf, Pier 39, Ghiradelli Square, The Buena Vista Café and the cable car turn-around.   We’ve been choosing Argonaut Hotel as our go-to place to stay in San Francisco for about eight years. Never once have we been anything but satisfied with our room, the staff and our overall experience. This trip was no exception. Because it was the holiday season, a time to celebrate, and we were only planning a one-night stay, we splurged and chose a king suite. At 900 square feet, the king suite features a large sitting room, dining table and office area. The bedroom is spacious and comfortable and the bathroom is big enough for two people to get ready at the same time. The décor is chic and nautical with exposed brick, white shutters on the large windows, and lots of stars, stripes and anchors about. The views from our five windows looked out toward Coit Tower and the Financial District. Other rooms on the property have views of San Francisco Bay, Alcatraz, Hyde Street Pier and North Beach. Since our suite was so luxurious and we’ve been to San Francisco countless times – in fact, I lived and went to university there years ago – we opted to avoid the holiday crowds and enjoy the many comforts our suite had to offer. We took advantage of our Kimpton InTouch membership benefits, which is free to join, by logging in to the free wireless service. And we used our $10 “Raid the Minibar” coupon to buy some snacks. There will be more benefits forthcoming the more we stay in Kimpton properties. The dogs relaxed and got accustom to their new home for the night. The staff sent big pet beds to our room, that the dogs immediately got cozy on, as well as dog bowls and lots of treats. Later that evening we dined at a nearby restaurant.  I chose a dressy-casual outfit jeans and a Zara coat I bought San Francisco’s shopping district, Union Square, just a short cable car ride away from the Argonaut. I wore a pair of fun cheetah print shoes with a low, sensible heel; I knew we’d be walking around the hotel’s neighborhood that evening. After dinner and a stroll, we returned to our hotel for a comfortable and quiet night’s sleep in our plush bed. In the morning, donning our animal print robes left for us by the Argonaut staff in our closet, we made a pot of coffee, got ready for the day and packed up. Before we left, we ate a tasty and filling breakfast at the hotel’s Blue Mermaid Café located downstairs near the lobby. I recommend Argonaut Hotel without hesitation to anyone visiting San Francisco, with pets or without. Their prices are reasonable, the staff is welcoming and helpful, and the property has recently been renovated. The rooms are beautiful as are the world-class views! The location can’t be beat if you’re looking to experience San Francisco’s wharf area. Cable cars, Ghiradelli chocolate, Irish coffees, fresh fish and crab, and lots of shopping, dining and entertainment are all just outside your door when you stay at Argonaut Hotel.   The Rich Life by Adrienne Shubin, luxury lifestyle for less, live better, California lifestyle, luxury lifestyle
