Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial kickoff to the summer season and a great time to take a long weekend trip. There are plenty of destinations on the East Coast, but the Hamptons is one of the top places to be for Memorial Day weekend. The towns come back alive after the slow winter season with everyone eager to enjoy the upcoming summer.
The Hamptons has a very specific aesthetic, so dressing the part is key. It is the perfect place to sport preppy, colorful, refined style. When I think of dressing for Memorial Day in the Hamptons, I think of brands such as Ralph Lauren, Brooks Brothers, and GANT. The Hamptons society looks is very fitting with Gatsby– cable knit sweaters and seersucker.
Below are some ideas to help you look the part on while celebrating the start of summer in the Hamptons:
All of these things create effortless yet put together looks that can transition from passing time by the pool or strolling the town streets into an outfit for a dinner party or party on the beach in the evening. Pair bright colored sweaters with complimentary colored chinos, and do not be afraid to wear preppy patterns such as madras or embroidered shorts and pants. A driving moccasin and a great pair of sunglasses finishes off the look.

The weekend doesn’t have to be just about BBQ. Shopping in relaxing Southampton beats the busy 5th Avenue shopping, and you will find some of my favorite stores such as Jack Wills and Ralph Lauren right in town nestled between cozy cafes and seafood restaurants. Our editor also recommends stopping at the Wölffer Estate Winery (Located at 139 Sagg Road in Sagaponack) for a wine tasting and for live music on Fridays from 5pm-8pm. It will make for the perfect Memorial Day weekend.
