HELLO GORGEOUS. IS IT TIME TO REDEFINE WHAT LIVING LIFE TO THE FULLEST MEANS?

Comfy Wins

A moment in my life… “Mommy, mommy, we need gym clothes for school tomorrow” said my kids after the first few days of school here in Sweden. I knew I hadn’t thought of something. The gym clothes. That’s not good if the gym clothes are the wrong kind… especially when you are the new kid in the school. The Swedish kids dress in comfort and their clothing even for school is more based on practicality than fashion – rubber boots, rain coats and active wear is popular, and windbreaker seems to be the uniform. Don’t take me wrong – practicality can be cute, like Swedish Polarn O. Pyret shows, but I also think why kids should be deprived of things like pea and trench coats, leather boots made in Italy, or cashmere sweaters. How else to teach them style? But back to the gym clothes, and my mind racing which store we should go and get the kids gym clothes that fit the local standards. But after asking my kids what others wear and what they’d like, I got an answer I loved to hear. “We just want to wear our Hanes tees and A&F sweats,” the kids say almost in harmony. And the gym bags were packed ready for the next day. No need to purchase new more technical sports clothes for PE. Like it brings me comfort to display some of our oldest things on the dining room cabinet, it brings kids comfort to wear Hanes comfort and Abercrobie fashions to school. While traveling and seeing new places and countries definitely widens your horizons and inspires you to try new things, it certainly also makes you value the comfy old things more. The pea coats still hang unused in the closet, and even the pre-teen won’t wear her Cynthia Rowley and Banana Republic blazers that this fashion-crazed mom bought for school. Even she likes to play soccer during the long recess with her new friends and chooses comfort and practicality over fashion. It makes me smile.. my kids are smart and know what’s the best thing to wear – even when I give them different options to choose from. And I hang one more old thing on the wall to feel like home in this new house. The Hanes catalog as it is – with the picture of my daughter Gabriella on the cover. No fancy framing, no mattes, just as it is. Because sometimes things are better when there are no frills at all. Full disclosure: I am part of the Hanes Comfort Crew, and have received some sample clothing over the years, but I have never received a monetary payment, and we truly are Hanes brand loyals as this post tells.
